About Lavallette

Lavallette is a borough that is located in Ocean County, New Jersey. Its location makes it a great seaside family resort with its lovely ocean fronts and fantastic shopping district located on Grand Central Avenue, or Route 35. There are plenty of dining and shopping areas in Lavallette, but it is quite known for its tranquility. The soft sound of the beach and bay-shore waves makes Lavallette a near drive escape from the world.

One of the benefits of visiting Lavallette is both the bay and the ocean sides of town. The offshore sandbars are out far enough to prevent waves from curling in the shoreline, which allows for excellent surfing on its blue waters [3; 8]. If you're a big surfer, you'll enjoy catching the right wave with just a few flaps of finned feet or a few swift paddles while riding a raft, boogie board, or surfboard [3; 8].

The low tides form a shallow pool-like area for youngsters who would like to enjoy gentle play [1; 10]. They can frolic in the white water that gently washes ashore - the end product of the outside breakers - with little fear of being hit by one and knocked down [3;88].

Though it is not allowed to develop residents in much of its bay-shore area, Lavallette does have a wonderful waterfront park. Adults and children can enjoy all that the park has to offer. Here you can picnic with the cool breeze of the waters or play with the children in the open and safe park space. There are also other activities that include two piers for fishing & crabbing, two launch ramps for boating, and a guarded beach for swimming [3; 86-88].

The boardwalk itself stretches for about 28 blocks along the beach, which also adds to Lavallette's traditional fun. It is most ideal for the walkers, both the power kind and those who just meander [1; 10]. Also, when visiting Lavallette, don't forget to visit its famous Gazebo on the bay, which makes for a delightful sunset [1; 10].

Reaching paradise no longer requires sailing…you can drive there.

Brief history on Lavallette

Lavallette was co-founded in 1888 by Albert T. Lavallette and named after his father, the famous Admiral Elie A.F. Lavallette. The Admiral was a descendant from a prestigious French family of de La Valettes. He entered the Navy during the War of 1812 and from there became very distinguished by winning medals and promotions.

Even before its discovery, it was being pitched ideas by developers who praised their local crabbing and blue-fishing. They'd charter a train to Toms River, 7-miles away on the mainland, hire a sailing yacht, and bring prospects across Barnegat Bay for a picnic on the Lavallette beach. After 1881, the railroad extended across the bay right into Lavallette, and the resort boom began in earnest.
